The challenge
Forge's users are creative professionals who keep their tools open all day, so bloat and lag were dealbreakers. The team wanted one desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux with deep OS integration — but without shipping a 300MB Electron bundle that ate memory.
Our solution
We built Forge Studio on Tauri with a Rust core for the heavy lifting and a React UI on top. Native menus, file associations, global shortcuts, and auto-update were wired in per platform, and a local-first document engine kept everything fast and available offline.
The results
The app ships as a 12MB installer, launches in under a second, and sips memory compared to the previous Electron build. Forge rolled it out to their entire user base with auto-update and near-zero support load.
