The challenge
Wholesale buying is not retail checkout: dispensaries order at case and unit level, compare variants side by side, and place most orders from a phone on a shop floor. On top of that, cannabis regulation differs by state, so the same product catalogue has to behave differently depending on where the buyer is — which makes a single global deployment impossible.
Our solution
We built a React + Vite front end over a Ruby on Rails API, designed around dual-product cards that surface unit and case pricing together, and mobile-first ordering flows built for one-handed use. The platform is deployed separately for four US states so each can follow its own regulatory rules, with Postgres on AWS behind an ORM, S3 for assets, OAuth for access, and Stripe for payments. Feature flags gate in-progress work and Sentry plus Rollbar cover error and incident reporting.
The results
Dispensary buyers place wholesale orders from a phone with unit and case pricing visible in one card, and four state-specific deployments keep the product compliant with each jurisdiction's rules from a single codebase.
